Following on from my previous post in which I was asked to give some advice on how to succeed in learning the language, I am uploading this post.
Hebrew in Hebrew - you must learn in the language you want to learn. It's hard but worth it because the brain "switch" for the spoken language and translates less. You enter the pool and start swimming!
Learning groups - if there are language learning courses in the country you've arrived at - that's the best. When you study with people who are in the same situation as you, it is easier to communicate even if the sentences are incomplete. They are in the same situation... they hesitate and make mistakes like you and many times there are also people who don't speak English or your mother tongue so that's great.
Investment - if you want to learn a language, you must invest in studying.
Learn new words - I really like cards with words, but today there are apps like QUIZLET and others that can help.
Words – when you learned a new word, put it in a sentence. It's easy to remember and understand its use.
If you learn words that for some reason you can’t capture, write it on a piece of paper and put it up for a week, somewhere visible.
Dare - don't be afraid to talk talk talk... if you are afraid try talking to small children at first. I remember once talking to a very young girl, the daughter of a friend, and she looked at her mother not understanding what I wanted from her... it remained a funny experience.
When you meet people, try to speak the language. People really appreciate the effort you make. At least in my experience. Tell them that it's not your native language, which reduces pressure...
Laughter is healthy - even if you make mistakes, it can be funny, entertaining - take it this way and reduce the stress on yourself. You can take write funny events that happen to you... you'll laugh a lot about it!
Tell us funny events related to language learning, so we won't feel alone...
