Coaching and the Jewish Bookcase

For years, I’ve been reflecting on the connection between coaching and the Jewish bookcase. While I’m not a religious person, I see Judaism as the core of my identity. It is from this foundation that I draw my sense of self and purpose in the world.

I’ve been involved in the Jewish community for over 30 years, living in different countries, and each time, I am reminded of the treasures contained within the Jewish bookcase. There’s always something new to learn.

Today, I want to share a thought inspired by Rabbi Kook's teachings, which have been set to music (pictured). The song, in particular, offers us guidance on how to rise from difficult moments—the times when we feel hopeless and overwhelmed. Rabbi Kook's message is simple but profound: Look within. You have immense inner strength, and like the eagle, you also possess spiritual wings.

The key is to momentarily step away from your struggles, to rise above them, and to see them from a new perspective. Rabbi Kook tells us, “You have spiritual wings; don’t deny them.” These wings symbolize the inner powers and abilities we all have. It’s easy to fall into the trap of thinking, “I’m not capable” or “I have nothing to offer,” but that’s not true. These powers are within us—they’re real, they’re there, and they will reveal themselves when we need them most.

In difficult times, I turn to the words of this song and am reminded of the strength within me. It’s a deeply empowering message.

I encourage you to embrace it, too, and discover how much power you can draw from these words.
