Researchers Berry and Lackland claim that age has an effect on the acculturation processes of immigrants in a new country. Few have researched this subject.
I agree that for young people it might be easier to expatriate but I believe it relates mainly to personality- but it is a topic for another post.
Answering one of my posts, someone wrote to me that ‘children have it easier’.
I want to say unequivocally: no.
The transition of children does not depend on them. Their legal guardians are the ones who make the decision and are the ones who drive the process.
Many children experience crises following immigration, just as adults may experience it. Children have sometimes more difficulties, because they do not have enough tools to deal with the challenges.
So, what should you do? These are just a few examples and must be adapted to the child's age:
Preparation. Mental and physical preparation.
Providing the tools to deal with new situations.
Open dialogue with the children.
Write to us what are the empowering tools you used, maybe it can help others.
I would be happy to talk privately with anyone who needs guidance.
