I never liked to cook. Really. If I have to prepare a meal, it has to be as quick as 2 and a half minutes… Admitting the truth, I never had to. Around me there have always been people who cook excellent food. I can say I was even scared of the kitchen. How do I get to such a level of cooking?
Then I arrived to Belgium. This pushed me into the kitchen ... I had to prepare food (my partner cooks when needed, but at first he worked until late so I took it upon myself). I remember that at first I managed to burn an egg and soup ... Do not ask me how… Slowly I got better and better. I made things I never thought I would make like couscous (a real one like, my grandmother used to prepare). I baked cakes I never thought I would, Challa and many more traditional recipes.
I brought into my kitchen different characteristics. A mixture of tastes and cultures. To succeed I had to step out of my comfort zone. I would never cook if I could…but I had to as my children wants to eat a good traditional food… As in many areas of life, leaving the comfort zone is quite difficult for us because it is good for us there, comfortable, familiar and secured. Leaving it is scary. Share with me, what has taken you out of the comfort zone? (Whether during relocation or not). You can also write to me in private.
